Stranger Things A Love Letter to Cult Classics of the 80s.

A group of boys on their bikes pedal through the streets of smalltown USA.  Lights flicker mysteriously.  A panicky mother doesn’t know where her son has gone or what he could have been involved in.  Men in clean room suits enter a room lit by bright backlight.  An unseen threat lingers just out of sight.

Stranger Things owes a lot to movies like Close Encounters, ET, and even Goonies.  I agree with those calling it an homage to Steven Spielberg and I’m perfectly alright with that.  I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out the poster had been done by Drew Struzan!

Netflix themselves say, the series functions as a “love letter to the ubiquitous cult classics” of the 80s.

The series is set in small-town Indiana in the 1980s, where a mother, Joyce Byers (Ryder), searches for her missing son after he disappears under mysterious circumstances. She enlists the help of local authorities in her quest to locate the boy, though she uncovers a series of government experiments and supernatural forces along the way.

The 8 part series will debut on Netflix on July 15th and I intend to bingewatch the whole thing!
