Star Wars Brings the Power of Hope to HopeKids Event

With the Star War Celebration that occurred in Anaheim the internet has been abuzz with Star Wars themes.  The Force is Strong in all of us, but nothing shows it more than when Star Wars fans can use their power for good, even when they dress for the dark.
This past weekend my family and I attended a Star Wars Charity event.  It was held by HopeKids.  A group that “provides ongoing events and activities and a powerful, unique support community for children with cancer and other life-threatening medical conditions.  We support these remarkable children and their families with the message that hope can be a powerful medicine.”

The event was held at the UltraStar Multi-entertainment center in Maricopa, Az.  For a ten dollar donation one was able to enjoy a day of bowling, arcade games, Laser Tag, and meetings with the Emperor, Darth Vader, several Stormtroopers and even Chewbacca.  Though the 501st was not directly credited for being at the event in any of the event flyers, as my family was bowling next to the Emperor, we were able to confirm that these were members of that great group.
Star Wars music was played through out the event.  You could try your hand at flying an X-wing, snowspeeder or speeder bike – Virtually of course – in the new Star Wars pod arcade game. If you wanted a more hands on experience the Laser tag was great fun. With the teams divided into Rebel and Imperial by the color on your vest. The added fun was never knowing if you where going to come around a corner and have a real Stormtrooper in front of you.
Having a family event that included a Star Wars theme was the ultimate family day out for us. It cost us no more than going to the movie and all for a good cause.
As I told my children the force will be with us always.
