The Decadent Ball Returns as Labyrinth of Jareth Celebrates 19 Years

One of the most memorable moments of Labyrinth, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, has to be the moment Sarah eats the poisoned peach that Jareth has given Hoggle and it transports her into the hallucinogenic fantasy that truly was any 16 year old’s dream.  Glitter, crystals, ribbons and men and women in fancy dress dance and whirl around the room in a dizzying spectacle.

With so much to take in is it any wonder she managed to miss the Goblin King standing right next to her?

Inspired by that scene (choreographed, by the way, by Gates McFadden of Star Trek: The Next Generation fame) The Labyrinth of Jareth Masquerade was born.  It’s a fantasy for any age (not just a girl lost in a labyrinth looking for her baby brother)!  Neither a music concert, nor a simple dinner theatre event, it is a truly interactive experience full of light, sound and color.  Music is composed new each year, performances and performers rotate and wander into the crowd to involve the patrons in the play.

This year the ball takes place Friday August 5th and Saturday August 6th, 8pm-1am at the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.

I attended the ball for the first time last year and was completely overwhelmed by the sheer energy of the place.  (see our coverage of that event here: http://www.thegeekianreport.com/index.php/2015/08/18/the-labyrinth-of-jareth-masquerade-ball-an-evening-of-fantastical-beauty/)   I have never seen so many amazing costumes in such a small place.  Everyone and I do mean EVERYONE is in a costume worthy of a tale and a set of credits all its own.

From the site:

The Labyrinth of Jareth is a Masquerade Ball based on Venetian tradition, Celtic faerie and goblin lore, and storie of fantasy and wonder. Lost within the borders of chaos and light, nobles dance among the Fae while goblins wait with hungry eyes in the wings of their court. Some of the most amazing fantasy artists, costumers and special effects crews participate in bringing a diverse host of creatures and mythologies alive each year. This Masquerade is one of the few classical events open to ANYONE who has dreamed of a surrealistic fantasy fading into a single night of dance and revelry. Music and visuals heighten your senses as the night shields the Goblin Court and the chambers surrounding it. The artists of Sypher Arts Studio continue to proudly offer this tribute to dreamers and imagination.

Dance and dream amongst the Court of Faerie and the darker edge of goblin realms.

Of course, the main point of a Masquerade is to dress in costume to astonish friends and strangers alike. Be imaginative, revel in the ambiance and detail as the world falls down. . .

There are VIP packages available for a pre-show, the Royal Pavillions and the Royal Tea Room.

Performers include Alice, Bad Wolf, Jeremy Soule, DJ Fett, Orbis Lazuli, Studio Iqaat, Picadilly’s, Les Plaisirs Champetre and Lumina: Dragon’s Rise
