Nichelle Nichols was a singer long before she was known as the Chief Communications Officer of the Starship Enterprise.  She toured the United States, Canada and Europe as a singer with the Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton bands, and appeared in numerous stage musicals including Carmen Jones and Porgy and Bess.

She has released 2 albums previously, one during the initial run of Star Trek titled Down to Earth, and one in 1991.  Out of This World was built around the themes of Star Trek and Space Exploration.

A long time supporter and recruiter for NASA, Ms. Nichols timed the release of her latest single Fly Me to the Moon, to coincide with the 47th Anniversary of Apollo 11 and the first landing on the moon.

Her smoky voice is still strong and beautiful in this cover of the song made famous by ole’ blue eyes himself and is a return to the sound of her first album Down to Earth (which I personally find the stronger of her two previous albums, though, don’t get me wrong, Out of This World is a fun album too!)  This love song to her fans is a must have for anyone who loves good music, Star Trek Fan or not, I know I bought it without hesitation and it’s now on rotation on my playlist.
